HedgeHog ‘Kattobi’ AIR Ceramic Bearings

HedgeHog Studio has successfully developed the first hybrid ceramic micro-ball bearings. Designing these precision-engineered components proved to be a real challenge, as the team had to overcome the constraints associated with using ceramic micro-balls.

AIR bearings use the smallest ceramic balls on the market for reel bearings. The balls are so small that they use eight of them where the competition’s ‘micro-ball’ bearings use only six.

Specially developed for Bait Finesse, AIR Bearings are currently the best available for this technique. The smaller size of the ceramic balls is designed to reduce the contact surface area, thereby minimising friction and enabling extremely rapid rotation with very light weights. The AIR Bearings are suitable for weights ranging from 1g to 28g.

AIR bearings can be used dry, but for smoother operation and a longer service life, theAlchemy Oil by HedgeHog Studio is strongly recommended.
If a different oil is used, it is essential to choose a low-viscosity oil, otherwise the performance of the bearings will be compromised.

The Air series features another major innovation: its protection system. Engineers at HedgeHog Studio have successfully created a one-piece housing that incorporates the protection mechanism. The absence of joints provides optimal protection whilst reinforcing the bearing’s structural rigidity. The rear panel is open for easy maintenance.

PLEASE NOTE: "Kattobi" AIR reels are specially designed for bait finesse and light fishing. They must not be used for heavy fishing or with weights exceeding 1 oz (28 g).
