To remove it, simply remove the metal clip holding it in place. You can use a precision screwdriver for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PLEASE NOTE: you should hold it in place with your finger to stop the part flying off when it comes loose!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bjules\/7095880903\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5334\/7095880903_bb6fe689fb_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1030915\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Carefully remove the orange part (the seal) that protects the bearing using a sharp object (in this case, a fishing hook). You can remove just one or both \u2013 it\u2019s up to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Apply a drop of special bearing oil to the bearing. It\u2019s then up to you whether or not to replace the seal. Fitting it protects the bearing from dirt but must be removed every time you want to oil the bearing, whereas leaving it off simplifies maintenance but leaves the mechanism more exposed. I opted for the second option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bjules\/6949797134\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7178\/6949797134_d03dc93aab_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1030901\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Place the new bearing in its housing and put the small metal part back in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bjules\/7095881221\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5034\/7095881221_2c1cd2d21c_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1030918\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 You can close the sideplate. The second bearing is located in the friction brake lever at Shimano<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bjules\/6949809694\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7087\/6949809694_94bc67fb0f_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1030920\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Unscrew the knob and remove the spring located between the knob and the bearing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bjules\/6949809924\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7134\/6949809924_2338491661_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1030922\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Remove the bearing (if it is really stuck, removing the spool via the sideplate may make it easier to take out).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Fit the new bearing after oiling it as described above.
